The Museum of Rare Book, MGIMO(University) of the MFA of the Russian Federation (Moscow)

Scientific library named after I.G. Tyulin of the MGIMO (University) of the MFA of the Russian Federation was founded in 1944, when Moscow State Institute of International Relations was established on the basis of the faculty of International relations of Moscow State University. The foundation of the book collection of the new institution was the faculty library of Moscow State University that consisted of about 100 thousand units of storage. In 1954, Moscow Institute of Oriental studies was included in the structure of the MGIMO, so two library collections merged. This event significantly enriched the book collection of the MGIMO, as the Institute of Oriental studies was the successor of the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages which was established in 1815 and had an excellent library. That library consisted of about 40 thousand volumes and more than 3000 of them were inherited by the MGIMO. The Scientific library of the MGIMO prides itself on being a possessor of 176 manuscripts and more than 21 thousand rare books of 13 – beginning of the 20th century.
